DWT has its own language, but sometime we need server side Tags in dwt tbb.

Example: Suppose you have some string and you want to format it, or want to do some operation on data which is not possible in DWT. you can use following code.

Keep in mind. DWT will no execute the .net code snippet, it will be rendered as its on .aspx page.

& format or replace the strings etc.

this issue comes very often to the asp.net or asp.net mvc developer and it can waste considerable time. i have resolved this issue many times using following steps.

1) Check whether right version of code is being debugged.
Go to iis right click on website. select open. Now match the path of this directory with the soution directory which is opened. it should match
2) Stop iis
3) Delete the temporary files form c:\windows\microsoft.net\framework\v2.0.50727\Temporary ASP.NET Files
4) Clean the solution (Right click -> clean
5) Rebuild the solution

now attach to w3c using ctrl+alt+p shortcut.

Tridion Dreamweaver Templating (DWT) Syntax

DWT better known in Tridion is acronym of Tridion Dreamweaver Templating. Dreamweaver is product of Adobe which they acquired from Macromedia in 2005.( Note: Flash was also part of Macromedia before 2005 :))

Dreamweaver Templates has its own syntax. Its also used in SDL Tridion for accessing components and to provide support for control structures(loop) and flow structures(if/else conditions)

Dreamweaver syntax is CASE SENSITIVE
Dreamweaver used @@ syntax or ${} to access value from variable/object.

Operator Support:

The TCP/IP connection to the host , port 1433 has failed. Error: "Address already in use: connect. Verify the connection properties, check that an instance of SQL Server is running on the host and accepting TCP/IP connections at the port, and that no firewall is blocking TCP connections to the port

Type: SQL server exception when used with ms jdbc drivers

Drivers: JDBC (sqljdbc4.jar, sqljdbc.jar) from microsoft

Solutions:
Solution 1:

In my problem i was not using JDBC pool, in configuration when i add the node for pool. after restarting the application it started working for me.

In my case error occurred in Tridion CMS.

Solution 2:
Go to: SQL Server Configuration Manager -> Protocols for SQL SQLEXPRESS,

then select Properties of TCP/IP.

In the tab IP Addresses, set the TCPPort in section IPAll to 1433.

This configuration section cannot be used at this path. This happens when the section is locked at a parent level. Locking is either by default

HTTP Error 500.19 - Internal Server Error

The requested page cannot be accessed because the related configuration data for the page is invalid.

Description: i got this error when i tried to deployed the asp.net mvc application on the IIS 7.5. As IIS 7.5 is very different from IIS 6.0 some setting also differ.

It was working perfectly on IIS 6.0

System Configuration on which this error occurred

Windows 7 64 bit

IIS 7.5

Asp.net 2.0/3.5 with MVC 2,3

Solution: it worked for me, it may also work for you.

Go to browser, on error page check the section "Config Source"

you will find error in specific section.
for example my error was

do following as per your error

1) first go to following location
C:\Windows\System32\inetsrv\config
2) Open the application "applicationHost.config"

go to particular section in my case

3) Reset IIS

You may also have to perform following in addition to above step. but following steps are optional.

Now on right side bar. select option: "Advanced Settings..."
There is option "Enable 32 bit application" set it to true:
Now press ok.., Reset IIS

c) Set "managed pipline mode" to Classic:

if step a does not work. perform following.

Double click the application pool
select classic in "managed pipline mode" option.

Enable Basic authentication in IIS 7.5 version. In previous version 6.0 it was easily available and used.

How to enable basic authentication in Internet information services 7 / 7.5

There are two ways to enable basic authentication in 7
1) Enable authentication in control panel

a) Open control panel
b) click on Programs and Features
c) click on Turn Windows features on off.. wait it may take some time to load...
d) select Internet information services. expand it via clicking on + plus sign
drill down further... like in following snapshot.

Select Basic authentication like in picture and press ok.
e) Restart IIS.. open command prompt with admin permission., type iisreset and enter..
or directly open the iis via typing inetmgr in run. and right click on iis icon in right top.. select stop... after that again right click on iis icon.. now select start

2) second way to enable the basic authentication:

Open command prompt with admin rights.

a) type cd
b) type c:
c) type cd %windir%\system32\inetsrv
d) type appcmd set config /section:basicAuthentication /enabled:true

Bad Request (Invalid Hostname) on web application

Recently i was working on an Tridion application, Tridion is CMS (Content Management System) which got very good feature for multilingual site.
Anyways i got this error multiple times
Reason of error:

1) Application pool was not started (Defaultapppool or any pool)
Just start the application pool, set the appropriate .net framework
2) you have put some value in header value in

check following screen shot
Just press edit and remove any value from the "Host Header value"
it will start working.

Struggling for job in IT

here are few tips which may help you.

1) Get contacts of your college Alumni, so have friendship with your seniors in college, go to Training & placement officer and ask for numbers.

2) Try contacts from your relative who may be working somewhere.

3) To get placement in small company (8-25) employee company, you should have working knowledge of asp.net, c#, SQL. Develop a website on e-commerce. it will explore different aspects of asp.net

4) Try through some HR Agent. they can put you in some company based on some contract, thing is you just need a break. so get into whatever company is it and start getting experience as well as motivation. after getting experience of 1 year. you can try another company. Min 1 year is needed. now at 1 lots of small company hires, but less small companies.
after completing 2 years ocean of jobs opens to you. MNCs majorly hires people of 2 years experience.

5) If you want only big companies as your comm-skills and analytical skills are good. you can give a try to C-DAC course. A lot of middle level companies hire at C-dac centers.

I often get a lots of comments about .net certification for fresh college pass-outs/ Freshers. Some Freshers gets placement but remaining wanted to do some additional study certification so have edge for job.
But as per Microsoft you need to have at least 2 years of industry experience to do the certification which actually do not verified by Prometric Center in India, but when Microsoft says 2 years of experience it means exams require some practical industry hands-on.

1) If you have good knowledge of .net at fresher level means you have done very good training at college level and executed some projects then, you can give a try,

2) But if you want to sit for exam just on basis of certification dumps, please do not go for it. Get some experience on it, because interviewer will know that you are not genuine & you will face rejection another set back for you that despite of certification you are unable to crack any interview.

Debug XSLT XSL transformation in Visual studio.

In Visual studio XSLT transformation can be performed and debugged in very nice way, i come to know this feature when my altova Xml spy license was expired and i was searching desperately for a tool which can show me live transformation ie. debugging. It is best alternative to Altova XML SPY if you already have VS license.

Steps to debug xsl transformation.

1. Open Visual studio 2010.
2) Do not create any project or file, Just drag xml file and xslt file into the Visual studio.
3) Now place break-point in the xslt file.
4) Press Alt+F5 or alternatively select from menu debug->"start XSLT debugging"
5) It will open dialog box and ask for xslt file, just select the xslt file( i know you have already opened it , but do it )

6) Now transformation has been started , you will see the debug point has been hit.

7) Now press F5 to complete the transformation,

8) Out will be shown either adjacent to XML or XSLT file

Sometime "An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host" occurs in web app to the user, its very strange issue because all module were working yesterday they suddenly stopped working.

Resolution:

1) Reset the IIS, but it will affect all the application on IIS , if multiple sites are hosted. if only single site then open the command prompt with admin rights and type IISReset and enter.

or

2) Restart the default/Required WebSite

3) Recycle the Application pools

4) Restart any dependent windows service.

i have a WCF serviec which is running on my localhost on 9876 port.

i was using nettcp protocol for my WCF windows service, and in client(from which you are hitting the service, say another website or another web service)it was having following entry in config file

the problem here is instead of localhost (or where my service is actually pointing)

i was using "Something" and "Something" do not have any entry in the host file.

i changed it to localhost:9876 and this error was resolved.

SSRS special character issue in Html/CSV download, UTF-8

Special character means other than ASCII it could be French/Spanish etc. Sometime while working simple mistake cause this special character issue, special character appears as "?" or some other character.

This happens when special characters are not treated specially, for special character we should use UTF-8 encoding rather then ASCII.

Some times you get this error while starting or restarting the windows service especially in .net wcf window service.
Two reason for this error
1) Config file of windows service has some issue. clearly check it for
a) Unclosed Tags
b) any xml comment error
c) any character not allowed in like. any character without tags.

2) the new code you wrote has some issue. Like on start of service you call a method, which do some action like read a file or anything which throw some exception.

in these scenarios service did not start error can occur.

You can also try once or thrice before checking above steps. because sometime resource allocation can cause this issue.
at last restart you system and try :)

Move / svn-move file to another folder in TortoiseSVN: How

If you want to move some files from one folder to another in Tortoise SVN. You should not do normal cut paste, or delete, then add new. It will delete the Version history associated with the SVN. so do the SVN move.

Select the files you wish to move.
Right click and drag the files to destination folder
A window will popup appear like following. Click "SVN Move versioned item(s) here"

4. Commit the source and destination folder, after the third step.
Confirmation: Now go to the destination folder and right click -> tortoiseSvn->Show Logs. you should see the older version log and new log(which you just committed)

Steps: it can occur with Microsoft .net application, asp.net mvc or any java, php applicaiton.

Just confirm that. if you are reading a stream or file, explicitly specify the encoding rather that rely on default encoding select by CLR.
You may have to put some more lines in the code because some time the method you are using does not have parameter for that. so you have to go additional step to provide stream which is having that parameter and supply it.

How to allow Illegal characters in path. This problem appears in asp.net MVC when double quotes "" or any other special character. IIS do not allow the special character in the URL, so URL will not match with any route and throw the error.

this is file created in properties folder by visual studio. If somehow it get deleted by asp.net developer. Visual studio throws error Properties/"Settings.Designer.cs" "could not be opened".

Solution: just create a new text file on the required locatin and rename it to "Settings.Designer.cs". compile in visual studio 2008/2010. it should show "Build succeeded".

Solution:

By following the steps described you can also have both sql server 2005 and 2008 installed on the machine at the same time. The trick is simple, just change a registry directory name of the sql server 2005 studio with registry editor. After the installation, you can then change it back.

1. Go to Windows > Run, enter “regedit” and click ok.
2. Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsft SQL Server\90.
3. Rename “90″ to something else, like “old”

You can now rerun the process in the Sql Server 2008 Express installation wizard. After installation completed, you will notice that the old Sql Server 2005 doesn’t run when you try to launch it. No worry, to fix it you can change the newly created directory “90″ to “70″. Then change “old” that you changed from “90″ before back to “90″. It should now work for both Sql Server 2005 and 2008 Studio Express

JailBreaking : Breaking the phone software jail. so that it can install apps from diffrent stores other than app store.

CHM file(book) error, not displaying content

Sometime when you download a chm help file or chm book from internet, or copy it from any usb drive it does not open or when open does not show any content.
this is actually security problem. Windows does not allow chm files to open.

Solution: right click the file->properties. at bottom of proper you will see a button unblock. click that button. it means windows will now not block the opening of the file. User marked it safe for opening.

Secondly: copy it to another folder/another drive or desktop and then try to open, sometimes it works.

web 2.0 and aging metrics (Page views and unique visitors)

In modern era(web 2.0). When businesses are trying to create RIA (Rich Internet application) that give them experience of desktop application, rich user experience in turns more users; when there is continuous fight b.w Adobe, Microsoft to be front runner in the RIA ( flash vs silverlight).

I am always surprised when "Page Views" is still considered as a major metric while deciding the ranking or effectiveness of sites.
According to my experience two major companies still advocate page-view matrix, so the businesses around the world follow them, and create web 1.0 (term for old app) application. In the list of companies Alexa & Google is also a name, who's wonderful adsense tech is ages old to support the web 2.0.

I think this matric should be discontinued or should be substituted with a new one that will pace the internet application development. because only then companies will think out-of-the-box. I really admire Facebook for their wonderful interface, its very very user-friendly and don't care about the page impression/view. You can check your profile and wall very quickly so its saving your time too. comparatively out of age Orkut, which still believe in the page view. you have to spend a lot of time to check your scrap,pics etc. but i guess facebook got success because of user friendliness. Facebook is ahed but orkut could have more page views.
All the sites above google, yahoo, msn adnetworks should come up with new matric to give better view of site use.

"No of Unique Vistors" -> This is also a metric but i don't see its effect in near future. As all browsers chrome, safari, Internet explorer, FireFox, are coming with stealth mode(private browsing) . When you browse in this mode no cookie or history is maintained. so to track unique visitor will be a challenge. so tracking unique visitor is going to be challenge.

As all the metrics were defined Pre-Ajax (web 2.0) era. Now i guess its time to move on from these.
All the major companies Google, Yahoo, Microsoft & various ad-networks must come up with new metric to give new spark to the web 2.0 and Internet. Because page views are also significant measure of ads performance.
One of the effective metric is time spent on site.

Another version, Microsoft VS 2010 and Framework 4.0. I am still working on 2.0. I need to jump 3.0 and 3.5. Companies barely working on 3.5 version, because very less application are being developed for 3.5 version. Don't know when 4.0 will get speed. Nokia n97 launched user review
Last week i previwed the most hyped Nokia n97 with great eagerness. But my eagerness came to halt even after using it two minutes. n97 is just new wrapper on existing 5800 eXpress music phone with a physical keyboard, processor speed increased a bit from 369 Mhz to 434 MHz. Same 128mb Ram. n97 is very sluggish like 5800.
User Interface is not smooth at all and not that much clear. It is stated as iPhone killer, but seriously it will be insult of iPhone to compare to that. I am not obsessed with the iphone, but salute the innovation. A physical keyboard inclusion is good, but not worth to buy this $700 device. if you really want to possess a Nokia smartphone of current benchmarks. wait for the company to release some worthy device.

Suggestion : Do not BUY......... Palm - PRE is good option.

Google calender is very effective and time saving tool. we can sync multiple devices including your smartphone using it.

you can sync outlook,iPhone,blackberry calenders very easily. Google support ics format which is an rfc standard(www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc2445.txt), it helps it to synch with various devices.

Google and Outlook Sync :- Two ways to do this.

Manual
Automatically.

Manual :- In manual way you need to export the calender in to .ics format.
google calender will automatically do that for you in zipped format, just extract that.
Now go to outlook file->import export...
now a wizard will appear , select "Import icalender or vCalender file" , select the"ics" file it will import all the scheduleds to your calender.

Automatic :- you need to download this small utility approx 300kb from the following address.

Give your google username, password
Set the option whether you want one way or both way sync

Google Calender,Outlook and IPhone Sync :- different ways exists.

1. iPhone can be sync with the outlook using the apple iTunes. so use the above steps to sync outlook and google calender then sync iPhone with the outlook using iTunes.
2. m.google.com/sync.

Google calender and Orkut. if you are using the Google calender. Orkut will automatically shows you a Orkut friends calender on your profile page. It contains the birthday of all of friends who's birthday are visible(you can also hide your bday on orkut). just click on it it will add the calender to your google calender.
There is no way to export this calender as its view only. but you can add the event from this calender to your calender. click on the event, a new window will open select "copy to your {calender name}" option from dropdown. Its tedious process because no bulk copy option is there.

SMS your event to Cellphone :- Yes you can. suppose your phone is not smart

enough to sync with the calender form google or outlook. But still you could be up to date using the sms notification option from The Google calender.
first you need to setup your mobile device click on setting just blow the name of your calender. you will see a option mobile setup. just follow the steps.
now click on dropdown as shown by A arrow in the snapshot and select calender settings and select notification tab as show in the Snapshot(ss). now configure it. Yes its free in my country(India). check your operator http://www.google.com/support/calendar/bin/answer.py?answer=37226&ctx=tltp and confirm whether receiving sms are charged or not.

Sharing & embedding. You can share and import other's shared calender in your google calender. just click on the A dropdown as the pic and select share the calender. you can make it public or protected via sharing it to some of your friends. same way you can import calender of your friends for any public calender.

BookMyShow (A network 18 Venture) is a popular and user Friendly site & i guess one of mostly used after PVR or equivalent. In past i booked many tickets when there was offer of free tickets :)
But technically its weak site. I found many glitches on the site.
Bug 1:
Tickets are available there But user see no ticket available.
With bug1 company can loose potential customer to other sites.

you can create situation where sites will have tickets, but users will see no tickets.

e.g Suppose Gold category has A-1 to A10, B1-B10,

1.Customer A comes to site at 1:00 he want to books 10 tickets and he select the tickets, the website now will not allow others to book those 10 tickets up to 12-15 min irrespectively whether he make the transaction or not.
he marks b1-b10 for booking.

2. Another customer B comes to site @ 1:05 and try to book the tickets for the same movie, same hall. he also want to book 10 tickets. He check that b1-b10 are not available but a1-a10 are available.

3. customer C come to the site @ 1:07 and try to book 5 tickets. he gets the msg that tickets are not available.

now customer though the tickets are not available. now he got two choices.
Either go to another booking site
Check another hall.
The same situation may be with other halls.

so he could spoil his plan to see the movie. so its loss for three entities.

Hall owner.

by chance if customer see tickets are available on other sites. What will be reputation of the site.

So with a little script anybody can show every user that tickets are not available for whole day. A small script or macro will do that.

Bug 2:
Even though bookmyshow allows you to book non-consecutive tickets when consecutive are available.
But when site does not have consecutive, it will not allow to book,Even the no of tickets are available. But site show a message that "tickets are not available please call the particular no. Customer may or may not call. So again tickets are available but customer is unable to book.

but some times when you watch a video on the internet and after that you think you want to download the that video but issue is you again need bandwidth and time to download that video.
But you can download the video you just watched/streamed on your computer without requesting the server again. so it will save your time and bandwidth.
e.g you watched a video IPL 2 cricket match. its size is 30 mb. after watching it you want to store it in your mobile or computer.
you just have to use flashGot plugin in your mozilla firefox browser. it store your stream data. you need to just click on the icon. it will download the data to a file. it its already streamed but its half the way, it will request only rest of the video rather then full video.

Problem 1: how to display date time in 24 hour format
solution : DateTime.Now.ToString("dd/MM/yyyy HH-mm-ss");
Note:Captial HH is used for 24 hour format.
small for 12 hour format

Problem 2: how to display am/pm in date time or 12 hour format time.
Solution : DateTime.Now.ToString("hh-mm-ss tt");
Key: "tt" for AM or PM

Problem 3: how to display time zone in date time.
Solution : DateTime.Now.ToString("hh-mm-ss tt zzz");
Note: zzz is used to display time zone.

Problem 4: how to show full month name in date.
Solution: DateTime.Now.ToString("dd-MMMM-yy");

Problem 5: how to format full day name in date.
Solution : DateTime.Now.ToString("dddd-MMMM-yy");
note: MMMM

Problem 6: how to format full year name in date.

In C# DateTime class is used to represent the date & time. But for the display purpose on the front end either on

1 data Grid View (GridView / DataGrid) (as by default time field is shown or you want to show in particular format)
2. labels,
3 storing in the database

in to a particular format
for all the above scenario we need to change the date & time format.
as some need only examples and others full details, i will firstly give examples.

GridView

In Grid view we have two ways to show colums

1. Bound Column
2. Template fields
in both we show date format differently.
Bound Field:

Template fields:
as we know template fields can be bind using Eval and Bind functions.
Difference: The Eval function is used to define one-way (read-only) binding. The Bind function is used for two-way (updatable) binding.

DateField..ToString() is used to convert a datetime object to specific format. Internally gridview call this method.

C-sharp comes with two type of format specifier.

1. Standard date Format Specifier.

Caution now if you want only "9" you will have to prefix a % to interpret it as custom specifier e.g dt.ToString("%d");

Different databases have different format for storing the date. so it needs to be change.

e.g: like sqlserver, oracle, mysql and postgresql store the date in following format yyyy-mm-dd.

oracle- mm/dd/yyyy etc.

for these purposes C# has provided many format strings.

Caution: small "m", small h and "tt" for AM or PM
HH capital H is used to display time in 24 hour format.

iPhone got very big storage space like 8gb/16gb/24gb. 24 gb ipod or upcoming Iphone :) as rumour says.

i used to carry my kingstone 4 gb pendrive. and also used to though how to utilise iPhone storage space. i search a lot and got some solution like wifi file transfer using some ftp. but did not like it. as you do not get it everywhere the configuration problems

then i come across diskAid. with it you can copy file to iphone/Ipod and from it to the computer disk. it comes for both windows and mac.

DiskAid is a freeware for PC / Mac which enables to use your iPhone/iPod Touch as external Disk. With DiskAid you can transfer files and folders via USB between your device and your pc

Attempting to copy the disk "iphone" failed. an unknown error ocurred (-53)

Attempting to copy the disk iphone failed. an unknown error occurred (-53) (-69) (-36) (-54) (-51) (-48).

This is rare problem that occurs in Iphone. but very difficult to resolve if you don't know the reason. with this problem copy songs to iphone or ipod problem occurs. ie. you will be unable to copy songs or video to this amazing gadget. but itunes will sync calender, outlook and contacts but songs.

Resolution/Solution

According to my experience. it occurs when itunes_control directory got corrupted due to some reason. This is the directory where iTunes store the songs & metadata about the songs. so if its corrupted iTunes will either copy 1-5 songs or none.

I made my phones itunes directory corrupted via deleting and recreating its some interal directory/folders. I searched the web almost a weak to get the solution but in vain. i upated my iphone os from 2.2 to 2.2.1 in try to remove the error. i though new os will again create the directory structure. But after completing the installation Itunes backup the songs with the same itunes_control structure. so all was like hell. i tought i lost my phone's song feature & should go to some expert or get my previous os back but after 15 days i got the solution and that was so easy that i laughed on me even you will.. just get a software like diskaid (www.digidna.net/diskaid/) got o itunes_control folder and rename it to some itunes_control_old.

plug out and plug in, then start the Itunes.after connecting to the itunes, you will get the following screen

Select first option "set up as new iPhone" -> continue

Itunes will recognize it as new phone. it will recreate all the directory structure and will ignore the old itunes folder.

Now try to sync it. you will automatically get smile on you face when ituens starts copying the songs.
this article is also applicable to ipod touch, or iPods

Note: Itunes will create a new folder that will not have any of the your previous songs you need to sync it to copy all the songs again to the deviceRenamed folder still on device contains the songs & it occupies space,

You have two choice,

1. Cut paste that folder to the machine/computer (Choose if any of the song is not in your itunes, but only on the device(iphone/ipod), so that later on you can search it, but thats tedious process, because itunes renames the songs while copying to the device, so you have to play songs one by one to get to the desired songs.)

2. Delete the renamed folder, if you have all songs on you machine you can delete this folder. you have to remove that folder from the device using either of above two option, to clear the space from the device.

firefox is very innovative and free browser. Every body should try to use it atleast once. tab browsing, extension and speed are some of the factors.

out of these extension are very powerful feature. i m a developer so use many kinda of extension related to programming and normal browsing.

here some of my favorite extension reviews.

Gladder -> Gladder is very useful. it gives you option of 100s of proxies available in the world.
you just have to add the site you want to proxy in the list of sites.

suppose in office :) you want to access
simply add these sites in to the setting .

gmail.com,
orkut.com,
hotmail
facebook

just click on the gladder icon , a ladder will be appear on the same icon. it means now you are using the gladder. so every site added under the gladder will be open using a proxy.
some proxy might not work. no issue. you can right click the gladder and choose change proxy. a new proxy will be used to display the same page. even you can un-proxy the current page.

FlashGot. You were just watching a video on youtube or dailymotion or any video on anysite. it took around 25 min to stream the video on your computer. now you liked the video and want it in you disk collection. but it will again take 25 min to download on your computer.

don't worry flashgot is here. when any video stream on the FireFox a streaming icon is displayed on your FireFox status just before the list of extension. after the completion of video just click on that. it will automatically download the streamed video to your disk without again going to the server.

i am keen to have iPhone 3.0 for myself. It is going to improve dramatically. when every phone vendor is trying to catchup with this magnificent phone. Apple is setting new benchmarks for those. this 8, June iPhone 3.0 will be launched, hopefully job will do the honour, but that doesn't matter, who do that. thing is we need innovation in this niche market. This error occur when a row from a datatable is added to another dataTable.

as a row can only belong to only one table. so this exception occurs.
Source row may be selected using dataTable.Select() or find. or direct dtTable.Rows[0] etc.

in every case it will generate error. so to avoid this error.
You can use following to methods

1. add a new row in destination table and copy field one by one from source to destination.

2. using ImportRow
firsly clone the table.

DataTable dest = source.Clone() // it will copy the structure to the dest table.

now dest.ImportRow(dest.Rows[0]);

Passing Marks
Microsoft has not clearly mentioned the passing marks and out of marks.
But you need to score 80% to clear the exams.
Experience tell that MCTS(both) and MCPD are out of 1000 marks. you need minimum 800 to clear the exam.

No of Questions

Minimum 40 (most of the cases)
Maximum 50

Duration
2.30 - 3 hours according to questions.

these are the no's according to the my experience at time of giving the exams. It could change later by Microsoft.

Don't hesitate to comment if any question/query is in your mind.

OPen iis from control-panel->administrative tools->internet information services.

now right click "default smtp virtual server" & selcect properties as shown in following image.

now select the appropriate IP in connection drop down that should match with the IP you are using to send mail.

now select the "Access" tab you will see the screen as follow

in Connection and Relay add same IP.

it will resolve the problem

• Reduced run-time errors The compiler cannot detect type errors when you cast to and from the Object class. Using generics allows the compiler to catch this type of bug before your program runs. Limitation:

Generics is CLR Supported: Generics is supported by CLR itself. so its not a wrapper kind of thing like properties,namespace etc. Its recognized by the CLR. So in Meta Data Generics class is IL-ed. In realty its will be impossible to do that. Because a generic class can be instantiated with many types so it will blot the IL.

Reason: if this is occurring while sending mails.

then it can be two reasons

1. you have given wrong smtp address.

2. your smtp server is not running.
type services.msc, all services will be displayed, search for smtp service.
and start it, if its stopped.

Right click on services and check "startup type" if "disabled" selected then select "automatic".
and test it.

if still any problem comment with the proper description.

I heard about the chrome on 2-sep-2008. I read full 37 pages chrome cartoon books. I was really waiting for at least two of the features that chrome has brought.

1. It was tab moving, Moving one tab to another window without losing state.

2. Avoid crashing of whole browser when a tab consume memory or malfunction.

3 Status bar comes when needed not reserve you screen area.

4. It increased my screen estate area now it is bigger.

5. Spell checker it there( I think Mozilla too have with plug in)

various exams(70-528,536,547,548,431,441)as mentioned in my
previous article

Even you can download a pdf from the internet. Try the questions at end of each chapter, also do the

practice question. Cd come in pack if you purchase hard copy there are a lot of examples and practicle

question.

Second Way is read dump but that is not recommended approach , you will learn nothing and that will be

only a tag, that will not work if your are going for interview coz you will be caught easily.

This comes when integrated "Windows authentication" is disabled in IIS.

Resolution:

Go to IIS.

in websites right click the desired website on which error is coming , then select properties, then "Directory Security" tab, then "Edit..." under "Anonymous access and authentication control" section on selection this a dialog box will open check the "Integrated Window authentication" press ok, ok.

Last week i purchased an Apple iPhone. Its security needs to break (Unlock) to run any other network other than at&t so i did. now i am running it on Airtel (Garv se bolo "Hello").
As it is from Apple it is very Innovative. I am damn fan of its tapping and finger touch technology. It is far away from any other high tech phone in market. but one thing it lacks in its phone features mean calling , alarm , speaker phone, network strength are not of very good; Nokia is the master of these features you can't beat Nokia in calling and network strength features. So for these features Apple need to do a lot of work. like me Sergy Brin is also a fan of iPhone

In order to debug this project, go to the Debugging tab under Configuration Settings in Project Properties, and set the Start Action to Start External Program or Start URL. Alternatively, you can add a non-library project to this solution that uses a reference to this project and set it as the startup project.

Solution: A libray project can't be a startup project becoz it does not contain aspx page.
Problem is you have selected start up project a library project so when you run project vs try to run a libary which can not be run. So to remove this problem right click on the website-project under your solution and select "Set as startup project" now press f5 visual studio will not show you error now. for further query comment below.

Solution:
This is actually occur when the hash.web is locked by indexing service.

Letter from an OBC
I was the topper of my batch and got through to medical college through all India entrance exam, till then I was known as a topper by my classmates but then came VP singh and mandal and since then I’m known as an OBC who also happens to be a topper.
I understand that every party wants to win election and hence would like to implement reservations everywhere possible so as to win election. Some want to implement reservation for muslims where as others want to reserve 50 % jobs in private sector. This has and will create great social disharmony which is detrimental to India. I have been on both sides of reservation debate and have some ideas which may be an answer to end the reservation game .

There are some fundamental flaws in reservations in it’s current form which if changed will /can lead to upliftment of real poor and simultaneously make the elite from reserved category think twice before they ask for more reservations-

1] There is no criteria for creamy layer for SC/ST hence
A]People like Mr. Ram Vilas Paswan fights from the same reserved constituency again and again and yet again but the really poor dalit cannot fight election from the same constituency as Mr. Paswan is fighting from the reserved category constituency.
B] A grandfather followed by a father followed by the son benefit from reservation but the real dalit remains dalit because as long as the elite dalits keep on hogging the reserved seats the poor will remain poor.
And what do these elite dalits do- ask for reservation in private so as to show the real dalits that they are doing something for them instead of asking for creamy layer in SC/STs. They teach the poor dalits that they’ve been denied rights but conveniently forget to tell that they have been shamelessly hogging the benefits meant for the real downtrodden.
2] A person can get reservation to get into engineering then again into MBA and then again into civil services so one person has benefited from reservation thrice when 2 other people could have benefited from these reservations making upliftment of 2 more families possible, but this greedy person(who is also a great proponent of reservation in it’s current form for obvious reasons, and strongly advocates reservation in private sector) denies them the opportunity hence actually oppressing them.
3] It should be a crime to fill in false creamy layer and if found out later the person’s degree/job should be cancelled.
4]Income tax returns of parents[both mother and father] should be essential along with a certificate of creamy layer.
5] Children of certain professionals should be made creamy layer without consideration of income as false certificates are quite easy to obtain [these professions could be IAS/IPS/Doctor/engineer/MLA/MP etc.]
6] There should be another commission to reclassify the castes-
In last 50 yrs. of independence Bihar itself has had an OBC chief minister for more than 15 years, so some castes are definitely not so oppressed any more.

I post these points in hope that some one somewhere will propagate these thoughts and hence one day the politicians will be forced to implement some of these ideas, if not all and hence begin the empowerment of real oppressed and end the demand of further reservations.Also there may be a day when the creamy layer OBCs/SC/STs themselves may ask to end reservation if they see that they are not getting benefit from reservations.

Is Linux ready to challenge MS Vista?

At the Brainshare Novell user conference in Salt Lake City last month the company flagged the summer launch of version 10 of its SuSE Linux Enterprise operating system for servers and desktops. The company is positioning its Linux offering as a less complex alternative to the Vista release of Windows.
Jack Messman, chief executive and president of Novell, said, "Microsoft's Vista is going to require a big migration and more end-user training, and it makes sense that corporations will look at desktop Linux as an alternative now."
Linux on the desktop has come a long way since Novell and Red Hat turned their focus on the needs of the corporate user. Delivering the kind of polish and user-friendliness required is changing the perception that Linux is the preserve of the bearded, sandal-wearing geek.
Gary Barnett, research director at analyst firm Ovum, said, "In 2003 the battle was between the suits and the sandals but in 2004 the suits took over. This brought a lot of confidence to corporate customers, many of whom are quite conservative.
"It is never a bad time to look at Linux, but the question is whether it has reached the stage where companies will like what they see. In the past year we have seen some important changes that make Linux more viable but, in my view, Linux is still not quite at the stage where the general customer will view it as a desktop alternative to Windows. It still has a few rough edges, but it is really very close to being ready for use within the enterprise."
One aspect of this new professional approach was demonstrated by Novell at Brainshare. During a keynote a series of pictures showed lab testing where first-time users were exposed to desktop SuSE Linux and its applications to discover where usability problems may lie.
This is something that Microsoft has been doing for many years and it has vastly improved Windows. In many ways Linux has a lot of catching up to do, but the past record has shown that the community learns fast - both from its own research and from Microsoft's example.
Red Hat runs similar tests and Gerry Riveros, product marketing manager for desktop client solutions, said, "The look and feel has to be similar to what everyone has been trained to use, but we are still trying to do something that is different because we are not trying to be a Windows clone.
"The differences come around security and the way we handle that and the way we handle manageability. If you look at the total cost of ownership for an enterprise, it is not so much the acquisition costs that is the big driver, it is the management costs for all the people involved - the systems administrators. This is where we have been focusing our efforts to really drive those costs down."
In the early days, using Linux on the desktop was seen as an individual's choice. The operating system and graphical user interface (GUI) had to be loaded on a computer-by-computer basis, and ongoing management was down to each user's preferences.
In the corporate world, centralised management is important in keeping costs down, and so we have seen the rise of Linux equivalents of Microsoft Systems Manager.
Red Hat has Satellite Server for bare-metal installation and hardware configuration, or Network Server for application roll-outs and client management. For Novell, these functions are contained within the Zenworks suite alongside features such as patch management and handheld device management.
The software suppliers are moving closer to the computer makers, as witnessed by Red Hat's long-established links with IBM, Hewlett-Packard and Dell.
Dell announced at Brainshare that it will be supplying a customised version of Novell's management system, Zenworks 7 Linux Management - Dell Edition, as an exclusive offering for Poweredge servers running Linux. Significantly, no similar announcement has been made for desktop Linux.
Laurent Lachal, a senior analyst at Ovum, said, "Suppliers like Dell will definitely not jump on to the bandwagon until it is mainstream. IBM may be first to move but it has been quite shy to do so in the past."
Security management is still developing in these packages, with Red Hat using Security Enhanced Linux (SELinux) and Novell open-sourcing its own project Apparmor.
SELinux has been developed by the US National Security Agency (NSA) with the help of the Linux community. It is a policy-based application that confines each program's access rights only to files needed to complete specific actions. Novell's Apparmor works in a similar way, but automatically analyses how an application behaves, locking out any unexpected behaviour.
This means that much of the security is handled within the operation so that firewalls and anti-virus applications can be less complex than their Windows equivalents.
Linux is inherently more resistant to malicious code than Windows, but this is a contentious area and complacency is a dangerous attitude in IT. There is a wide range of third-party products covering firewalling and anti-virus protection from companies such as Check Point, SmoothWall, Firestarter, Computer Associates, Sophos, F-Secure, Trend Micro and Kaspersky Labs.
A major problem when considering Linux clients is the lack of application software. Even the suppliers admit that the best uses for Linux desktops are in the kiosk, basic office and specialist workstation areas.
Michael Silver, research vice-president at analyst firm Gartner, explained that the user interface for Novell Desktop looks a lot more mature than previous interfaces, but even though this may inspire more confidence it is not so important to a business.
"The piece that companies still have to realise when they start rolling Linux out is that it is still Linux. If they have Windows applications that the users need, they are going to have to do something about those. If they have browser applications that specifically require Internet Explorer, they are going to have some problems and need tweaks. If their users are heavy Office users, they are going to have to make sure that the new version of Openoffice is sufficient and can execute the macros that they need and displays existing documents with sufficient fidelity."
Openoffice has become the main Linux-based competitor for Microsoft Office and it is included with most packaged Linux desktops. It will display most Microsoft formats and the move to open XML formats as the default for the next version of Microsoft Office will only help interoperability - even though Openoffice favours a different XML schema: Oasis Open Document Format (ODF).
Novell has also co-ordinated the development of Mono, which allows Microsoft .net server and client applications to run on Linux. Mono is based on Microsoft's C# and Common Language Interface and includes class libraries for Linux so that .net applications can be made to run in a Linux/Windows cross-platform environment.
However, until all Windows applications are written to .net, the gulf between Linux and Windows will remain. Initiatives to encourage independent software suppliers to develop for Linux is starting to pick up speed, with Messman reporting that Novell has seen a rise from 40 partners during last year's conference to more than 1,000 this year.
Lachal said, "There are still quite a lot of applications, like Adobe Photoshop, which are mainstream applications but are not yet on Linux.
"Any major adoption of desktop Linux is still about two years away. The latest versions of Linux from both Novell and Red Hat are mature, but still lack the number of applications required and I think that, mainly Novell, will have to educate the channel to push the desktop - and that will take some time both from channel and applications development points of view."
Winning the battle to get the word out will still not be enough. Silver said, "Novell Desktop 10 is an important release in the evolution of desktop Linux. It has virtual private network clients which has been one of the most requested features by companies for a long time.
"It adds integrated search which makes it useful for knowledge workers. But it comes down to the application mix that the user needs to access and the degree of migration of applications that is required - the replacement of Windows applications with others. These considerations drive the costs up."
The hope was that Windows emulation would help bridge the gap, but now these efforts are being eclipsed by the availability of virtualisation software, primarily from Cambridge University's Xen project, which is being adopted by both Red Hat and Novell. This enables two different operating systems and their applications to be run on the same machine simultaneously.
Lachal does not buy into this. "What the enterprise wants to do is to standardise on one specific image of a system. They are not about letting users play around with two operating systems at the same time because that would be too complex."
The signs are there that Linux is maturing into something that can be as useful as Windows but is being seriously hindered by the lack of key applications. Anyone considering change should look at the bigger picture over the next two or three years as broadband internet is more widely adopted.
Barnett said, "Take a look at Linux every six months because it is changing fast. As we get into broadband internet and browser-based, on-demand services such as Salesforce.com or NetSuite, you are no longer tied to a desktop, and that opens up all sorts of possibilities.
"Ironically, companies need to ask themselves where they want to go today. How do they want to interact with information technology? Where do they want to store their data?. How do they want to exchange data? Do they want to carry a laptop or something lighter?"
Whatever the future holds, whether that is sticking with Windows, experimenting with Linux or becoming platform agnostic in a browser-driven age, change is inevitable. Linux has become more than interesting, but less than irresistible.
Lachal summed up the situation, "There is not going to be a silver bullet that will make people want to switch to Linux. It is going to be slow. It is going to be hard. It is going to be costly. Novell's message that Vista's arrival will be a good opportunity to reconsider your strategy is not really something that is going to happen for most companies.

Boot Camp reveals that OSX is slower than Windows

Apple, might be finding out that the problem with having a dual boot alongside Windows is that users can compare both operating systems better.
According to Penny Arcade, the introduction of Boot Camp makes it a lot easier to benchmark what the two operating systems can do.
One of its hacks installed Boot Camp onto his MacBook, installed Windows and then World of Warcraft. To test how the two operating systems compared he ran WoW at 1440 x 900 with all the graphic settings on maximum.
It was barely playable of course but he managed to get a frame rate reading of 15 and 20 FPS under Mac OX.
On the same lap top under Windows and the same settings he managed to get between 35 and 40 FPS. This is a pretty big difference.
The reviewer said that he preferred using OS X, but it was a little difficult to justify when a game runs twice as fast under Windows

The search effort between Academic Search, industry association CrossRef and more than 10 publishers connect users to primary research material. CrossRef, a nonprofit group, operates a citation-linking platform allowing researchers to legally access millions of articles and other content from several hundred scholarly and professional publishers.

Academic Search will source journals from the Association for Computing Machinery, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Reed Elsevier and Wiley & Sons. Reading more than the abstract, however, requires a subscription. The initial beta for the service is available in the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Spain, Japan and Australia.
The tool for researchers, students, librarians, and journalists narrows searches to specific interests. There are plans to add journals from medicine, psychology, history and art in phases following the initial launch.
Academic Search supports OpenURL, the library standard used for linking to subscription-based content via the Web, and Open Architecture Initiative (OAI) protocol to index OAI-compliant repositories.
